In the days of Pentecost, the first Christians celebrated the coming of the Holy Spirit, who empowered the Apostles to proclaim the Good News to all nations- according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Since then that same Spirit continues to urge us on.
Now two thousand years of Christianity cannot be understood however without taking into account two millennia of religious persecution. Over this period of time, there has never been a moment where somewhere in the world, believers risked their lives because of their Christian faith. Moreover, today Christianity is the most persecuted religion in the universe where more than half of the religiously persecuted people in our world are followers of Jesus Christ.
More than one hundred million Christians suffer for their religion in over eighty countries worldwide. This figure does not include the ‘soft’ persecution techniques such as religious discrimination or the outlawing of religious symbols present in our Western society.
The persecution of Christians is not therefore just a series of events in our history books; it is a stark truth in our modern world.
The team of S4C endeavors to show the seriousness of these often-hidden realities by bringing to light news, background, and analysis taken from Arabian, English, and Spanish news sources. We also focus on the signs of hope that we find: the testimony of witnesses, the recognition of exemplary national and international projects alongside the social and political projections in the fight for the persecuted Christians. S4C- ‘Stand for Christians,’ is always by the side of our Christian brothers and sisters.
One of our primary objectives is the shaping of public opinion, and it is to this crucial issue that we wish to attract attention.
We hope that through our work, we will help you the reader, get a fuller picture of the persecution and its background and of those programmes that serve to help the affected Christian communities survive and grow.
We also hope that we can be a reference point in the world, a point of focus and a guiding force so that many will be encouraged to help or indeed join our efforts.
So in this period of Pentecost of 2018 and with great confidence in God, we set forth on our mission, and on behalf of the team at S4C we welcome you— our reader!
