Italian priest faces problems for baptising a child

Police became involved in a baptism ceremony in San Gennaro Vesuviano near Naples. Police officers inadvertently discovered that one of the local priests had not complied with the authorities' decision to temporarily ban the organisation of religious ceremonies.

The officers who discovered the event during a routine check recorded the personal details of the ceremony participants. They informed them that due to the violation of the ban on the organisation of religious gatherings and ceremonies, the case would be referred to the appropriate authorities.

The priest as well as the participants may have to pay a fine of over 200 euro.

The health situation in Italy is in a catastrophic state. Since Thursday the 18th of March, according to official data, the number of deaths due to the coronavirus exceeded the total number of Chinese victims.
