“Abortion will never be legal in Brazil”, warns Jair Bolsonaro
Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro commented in a short tweet on the legalisation of abortion-on-demand by the Argentine parliament until the fourteenth week of pregnancy.
“I deeply regret the fate of Argentinian children whose lives will be ended in their mothers’ wombs with the consent of the state. As much as it is up to me and my government, abortion will never be approved in our country. We will always fight to protect the lives of the innocent! ” – wrote the President of Brazil on Twitter.
As reported by the American Catholic Information Agency (CNA), the new regulations will allow abortions to be carried out right up to the moment of birth.
In Brazil, abortion is illegal. An exception to this rule is the provisions of 1940, which allow the procedure to be performed in cases where the mother’s life is in danger or when the pregnancy resulted from rape. Then abortion continues to be considered as a crime even though women are generally not sued.
