US parlamentarian took a vow in a hijab with her hand on the Quran
Madinah Wilson-Anton is the first MP in the United States to have placed a hand on a copy of the Koran when she was sworn in. The politician from the Democratic party is a practising Muslim.
She got into the state parliament in Delaware, winning seventy-one per cent of the votes. Wilson-Anton, aged twenty-seven, wore a beige hijab and an abaya at an historic ceremony at the state’s Congress in Dover.
She swore on her father’s Quran.
By profession, Wilson-Anton is a political analyst who graduated from the University of Delaware. So far she has worked for two state MPs.
