Belgian bishops call for the opening of all churches and chapels

Belgian bishops call on the faithful to mobilise especially this coming Ash Wednesday. The local church is already exhausted by draconian sanitary restrictions that have been choking the life of parish communities for a year.

To enable the liturgical beginning of Lent for everyone, the bishops call for the opening of all the churches and chapels at the Church’s disposal and the organisation of several Masses, or even just services that distribute blessed ashes.

“This way we want to make it possible for as many people as possible. It is important that we can all inaugurate this Lent,” emphasises Father Tommy Scholtes SJ, spokesman for the episcopate.
