Eighteen people killed in Nigeria’s Ebonyi State
On Monday night Fulani Militants ambushed Ebonyi State, Nigeria, and killed at least eighteen people.
“We are mourning; we are in serious mourning since the late hours of Monday. Herdsmen invaded our communities and massacred our people. As we speak, 18 persons were slaughtered like animals. They macheted many of our people, burned vehicles, motorcycles and looted our properties,” an Egedegede Community resident told Blueprint News.
Among those dead was a priest from the local Methodist church.
Daily Post Nigeria reported on Tuesday that the governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi, condemned the attacks and visited the bereaving families:
“We feel so sad that this kind of thing should happen in Ebonyi, we feel so worried for our country Nigeria and we are short of words,” he stated, “We condemn this attack because it is capable of causing very serious killings if allowed to continue this way.”
